Casters with backup weapons

The ability for casters to wield a single weapon with no offhand as a backup, Any of the one handed weapons would be great, the chance to wield a sword or spear seems like a solid option and gives them a backup if they run out of spells. It also adds to the tactics layer letting us use another weapon to do damage.

2nd option to this, let everyone bring in a grimoire if you have extras it would make sense, but you limit non casters to a single spell in the book with half as many casts as a caster would have.

There is rarely ever a good reason to limit classes so hard on either front, i mean if a character takes the time to master a skill why shouldn't they have access to some of the mastered item?

We would like to note that the suggestion, at least partially, is already part of the game--albeit in the form of special perks for specific classes like the Battlemage or the Templar. This was a specific game design decision we made, with balance across classes in mind.

While we understand the limited use count of spells is another factor behind this suggestion, we would like to note that the game's balance is built around magic being limited but powerful. If spell use is expanded (whether in use count or enabled for other classes), that would create a major shift in the balance, requiring an overhaul of the overall combat and class balance from the ground up.
