More/repeatable optional battles with more variety
Hello,
Has there been a discussion to have a repeatable optional battle, preferably with procedural generation?
The one thing I love about Fire Emblem series is creating crazy mismatched classes with weird skill combo that somehow works (Magic Archer anyone?). In order to do so unfortunately, requires allowable grinding map or scenario battles. If you can make it randomized every time your squad enter the map, it'll be even better.

Vincent Robinsonfirst off I'd like to say I've been a fan of tactic RPGs since Ogre Battle (1995 I believe) anyway I love what you've done here but I am the type to grind for hours I just love the grind unfortunate this game has no way to grind I so wish it did.

ReiHi, this is exactly what I meant. The best tactic games I played is because I could spend literally hundred of hours just grinding and testing class compositions and coming out with outlandish class combo that somehow works. It's a satisfying achievement on its own for me.

ChosunI play srpgs to death, the fact that I'm not allowed to grind feels restricting :(. I'm enjoying the game but i also want to see the fruits of my labor :)

Juffacake MergedVariety is sorely lacking in optional battles.
The same maps, the same unit placements, a random chest at the top. It makes me think "oh great, I have to waste time doing one of these again" rather than be excited about what it is.
A few things that would mix it up:
- Objectives | make the player reach a location, defend an area, steal from some chests, close a gate to stop a continuous flow of bandits from overwhelming them.
- More maps | I don't think anyone would mind you reusing maps from previous chapters if it means there is some variety.
- Position variety | split the party up into 2 spawn locations to allow us to think about placement and comp more.
Some of these would really mix things up, and I'm sure there are more ideas your team can create. -

Allan AhrensI agree with Chosun. You have a great class system, or at least the foundation of one (with room to expand on it). Let people experiment with it, and not only will replay value go up, more people will probably take interest.
I have known a few indie developers over the years, and have even composed tracks for a few games like Age of Fear, ect. And I will say here what I always tell them- The key to a successful game isnt just an initial wow- Its HOW LONG you can keep them playing, and how invested they will be. Because then its on their minds, they chat about it with their friends, and it spreads like wildfire. This is why games like Ogre Battle, Tactics Ogre, Final Fantasy Tactics, and such are still talked about 20-30 years later. The more secrets you hide for them to find, the more intrigued. This game has ALL the foundation for a new franchise. I think you can make it happen! I can tell your hearts in it. And thats a huge plus! Keep us playing! -

Jer MergedYeah this would be the biggest thing for me. More variety would be great. Using old story maps would be fine if you added in different enemy setups. Also, more monsters battles! And more bigger monsters!

ODS_ThorThor AdminWe discussed this quite a bit and decided that it would be best to release an Optional Battle DLC that opens up battles so you can gain various weapon mastery and unlock different classes by grinding. We understand that the need for repeatable battles is to have more strategic options, so we came to the conclusion that we should make this DLC and that it should be free.
As you can imagine, this is a big undertaking so we will mark this as Backlogged for now. This way, you know we're on it but it will take a bit of time until we can deliver. -

Luke MergedThe story is great the campaign is great the few optional battles are great and make sense for when they happen. The problem is your combat is so good we gamers want to experience the combat even more and more.
If you could do a special repeatable quest. Let's sat it's called " monster hunt" and each time your in camp you can do a monster tour. Sending your army out on a journey of 3-5 battles. Vs monsters and bandits. What's the harm in allowing us to min - max our characters early on? Allow us to grind and over power the campaign maps. Why not. It's a single player game.
Or add a tower. With 50 floors with rare equipment inside. Like langrisser.
We can grind the tower for xp and gear. That would be fun. -

ODS GeeK Admin MergedTo provide additional context: we were seeing two main suggestions for optional battles: wanting more variety and wanting more repeatable ones.
We considered both options and decided we will have to focus our resources on one. After internal discussion, we decided to provide additional, repeatable optional battles as a DLC. As much as we would love to add variety, the scope and workload would be too extensive for us to add enough content in a timely manner.
While we may not specifically implement optional battle variety will be marked as not planned, we are considering an optional battle DLC.
You can find more information under: https://losteidolons.featureupvote.com/suggestions/337052/repeatable-optional-battle-procedural-generation
I will be merging the two suggestions. -

LukeThe fact you said "free dlc in future" has filled me with joy.
I don't mind paying 10$ for dlc.
I am really excited to hear what you have planned for the future.
Is there a way you guys could drop a video on your website or on your steam page discussing the topic of repeatable battles, grinding, optional battles, etc.
Your game is great as it is. But as others have said, adding replay value will only help to grow your game to new heights.
I look forward to new news about the game.
And again. May I suggest a tower with many many floors of monsters and treasure for us to grind in end game. Very similar to the tower in fire emblem sacred stones.

ODS GeeK AdminThank you for the kind words and suggestion, Luke!
Regarding the suggestion for video, would you mind clarifying whether you meant a dev commentary video or more of a new feature spotlight video? -

TseweIt would be very nice to have the option to Replay previous battles thouogh, to try other tactics (without gaining any XP). I always wish I could try them again.

Reynard87 MergedEven if it were to reuse the chapter battle maps, providing more variety in the optional battles in terms of enemies, win conditions, and maps would make completing them not feel as repetitive.

ODS GeeK AdminIn one of the patches in the near future, we will be doubling the number of side battle contents, from 3 types to 6 types. This would mainly be in the avenue of facing different enemies.
We will let you know when the update is here! -

ODS GeeK AdminWe had revisited this topic internally, and discussed different options on how best to improve optional battles as a whole. This actually took the form of optional battle improvements in our v1.5 patch pushed live in January of 2023. The improvements included different enemy types and objectives. We understand that many people have been looking forward to and requesting DLCs for more content. However, as we have been moving forward with console port and other projects, we concluded that a DLC containing just optional battles would not be something we would be able to pursue. We hope that you understand and that you will look forward to our future projects just as much!
